The pint that saved Britain

Dec 17 2010

To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, Ragus visited Robert Wicks the man responsible for re-creating the beer that was served to Fighter Command 11 Group in the officers’ mess at Biggin Hill. Inspired by the heady brew made with Kent Northdown and Finchcocks’ Golding hops, the auxiliary fuel tanks of Spitfires were filled with Westerham Ale and flown across the channel to serve to troops in the 1944 Normandy landings.
